What I know from my experience is that Kenilworth was a stated building in the 1100's and the construction took place over centuries. In the 1200's there were many things that took place such as a new curtain wall which was added. Also some more towers in the curtain wall were built it says in the guidebook 'the two d-shaped towers of the gatehouse, built as part of king john's ring of stone defence for the outer bailey between about 1210 and 1215' the quote suggests that two towers were built in the outer wall.
