One example is the Salutation inn on South Parade. The Salutation inn was one of many coaching inns situated on South Parade which enabled many people to travel to and through Doncaster. Coaching Inns were mainly used for coach drivers who seeked a place to rest overnight. Evidence suggests that a new salutation inn was planned and built down the road from where the old inn used to be situated in 1778.
