Blowouts- where protection against the wind is removed, sand is picked up from a strong wind and deposited elsewhere, leaving a 'hole'. Fixed dunes- when the vegetation has developed so that it forms a more or less complete cover of the substrate, the dunes are fixed. During this fieldwork, the following data was recorded. Plant species percentage cover, slope profile, air temperature, soil temperature, soil pH, wind speed, light intensity, and percentage air humidity. The plant species cover was calculated using a basic line transect. This was completed by placing a 4x0.25m or 1m square quadrat on the ground and estimating the percentage cover of each plant species in the quadrat.
