It will be presented in this paper, that there is a strong argument in the literature for the cross-cultural analysis of motor development and indeed developmental psychology overall, for the benefits it generates such as scientific credibility, overcoming culture boundness and so forth. This will be illustrated by examples of cross-cultural studies of motor development. However, it will be argued here that in theory this is achievable, but actually in practice this is inherently difficult as shown by the problems in the examples. It is felt there are too many concerns researchers have failed to overcome for the research knowledge to be entirely relied upon, such as operationalising culture, methodology and so forth.
