One reason for thinking that hate and paranoia do share a common mechanism is that people with paranoid personality disorders are very mistrustful, and are convinced that others are out to exploit them (Fenigstein & Vanable, 1992). These Hate/Paranoia 2 suspicions they have are due to misinterpreting harmless events as personally threatening (Fenigstein & Vanable, 1992). Paranoia connected to hate in this sense, is that hate is most often elicited by the perception that a person had been badly treated, unsupported, or humiliated (Fitness & Fletcher, 1993).
