The boys are making a transition into adulthood, and their mission to free the Buffalo is there symbolic initiation into manhood(right of passage), and a new social role. Parallels can be drawn do the "Bedwetters" "right of passage", and the formal ceremonies and rituals in some cultures that metomorphasize an adolescent into an adult. The "Bedwetters" transition into adulthood is symbolized by the boys sharing of three bottles of airline whiskey after freeing the Buffalo. Throughout the story the "Bedwetters" engage in reckless behavior. Some of the reckless behavior exhibited by the "Bedwetters" includes: stealing horses from the Box Canyon Camp, stealing two vehicles, and threatening a group of adult bowlers(who were interrogating the boys)with a rifle, which was subsequently used to shoot the ...
