These conclusions may not have been able to be obtained from the correlational studies, but they were obtained from studies that stemmed from the implications and predictions of the correlational studies. Sir Francis Galton, a cousin of Charles Darwin, conducted one of the earlier correlational studies in 1889. Studying variability in humans, Galton conducted a correlational study of the height of children against their "mid-parent" height - this being the average height for both parents allowing for the mean difference between sexes.
