This was followed in 1987 by all non-private clubs allowing full equality to all. In 1984, the Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) was founded. It is a voluntary organisation, promoting the interests of women and girls in all types of physical activity, sports and recreation. They are committed to improving, increasing and promoting opportunities for women and girls in all roles through sport and fitness. It was set up due to the growing concern of the lack of women in sport. It became a registered charity and company in 1997. They are funded by Sport England, along with donations and grants.
