Multi-nationals based in the United States are major employers in both countries, exerting considerable influence on employment, income levels and trade. Macro-economic trade data for Canada indicates that, after the United States, Mexico is the sixth largest destination for Canadian exports. In 2002 Mexico imported slightly over 2.4 Billion $CAN worth of goods, up significantly from 1993 when total Canadian exports to Mexico were valued at approximately $800 Million $CAN.
