Motivation in general has been the basis of extensive research in the past by leading psychologists such as Maslow, Herzberg and Mc Clelland. Hertzberg in particular developed a "Two factor" theory of motivation which lends itself quite aptly to the chosen question for this research. Herzberg carried out some research in the 1950's on two hundred Pittsburgh engineers and accountants to find out which factors of their working lives had a positive impact on their job satisfaction and which factors had a negative impact.
