Like any evolutionary process, the evolution of Human Resources Management has been a long and slow process. The recognition of the complexity of HRM and the dynamics which influence it has not always been as clear as they are today. In what seemed an overnight change, trade moved away from home businesses, farms and guilds to factories. The assembly line introduced a need for low-skilled laborers that were only required to perform repetitive tasks. The philosophy of management at the turn of the century was the employees need only bring their hands and feet to work and leave their heads at home (Losey, 1998).
