... a metaphor. Travel is change in all of these stories. Travel is a change in the physical surroundings, but also a change in the character that is traveling. The travels transform the characters. In all of the narratives, a change in the geography occurs along with the travel. The authors of the stories have selected and organized places, then linked them together to create the settings. Each of the stories has different places that change, but all of the stories do have a change in the places. In The Stillborn, the changes of scenery go from Li's school to her village to the city, and then back to the village and back to the city and back to the village once again.
