The Nian movement, lasted from 1851 to 1868, was also an anti-Manchu rebellion, but it was much more rudimentary than the Taiping Rebellion. Around 1855 Nian units began to clash with the police, plunder the yamen, attack prisons, and ambush official convoys. They even joined the Taipings and assisted them in 1854-1855. The Muslim Rebellions were also anti-Manchu in nature. Although in Yunnan the rebellion was born of friction between Muslims and non-Muslim tin miners and the local officials in 1853, it quickly took on an anti-Manchu and anti-dynastic nature.
