The humanists would have advocated teaching new material faster than the Catholic church, because the humanists encouraged people to think for themselves whereas the traditional Catholic church wanted believes to be as reliant on the church itself more. Thus, a better and more diversified education would help further the humanist's goals a lot better than the goals that the Catholic Church may have had.
