Since then the concept of 'equal opportunities' has expanded and has allowed education to change to meet the new demands of a networked society. Religion is one of the best examples as in Britain there are both Catholic and church of England forms of education, this however does not provide equal opportunities for the increasing amounts of Muslims and Jews. This was only recognised in January 1998 when two Muslim and two Jewish primary schools were granted with state funding. This had caused unrest for years leading up to 1998 as many Muslim and Jewish parents argued that white parents of all classes could receive state funded education in religious schools whereas Muslim and Jewish parents most of which were working-class had to pay for religious educations.
