It is generally performed without any form of coercion and purely for the self entertainment of the child. However, as soon as children enter the educational arena, rules begin to be imposed upon their writing. Children have very little idea about writing; subsequently it is very much a teacher directed operation. The teacher shows the pupil letters or words and the child copies, and practices copying until they get it right.
