It's quite interesting that they usually put some coins in the dumplings. Family members who have had the ones with coins inside are said to be lucky next year. Most of the families in China are cozy and happy. However, the power distance between elder people and young people is relatively high compared to some other countries, which may sometimes results in bad effects. Families have one child due to the "one couple one child" policy in China. U.S.: In the southern U.S. where I am from, family (extended and immediate) is very important.
