There are many different types of student, some are young and are entering university as they have recently left school or college, and others enter university as mature students. The majority of the latter have been away from mainstream education for many years and have to re-learn many study skills in order to keep up. The diversity of these students makes the job of the university staff all the more difficult. The attendance of a good study skills class prior to entering university would almost certainly be an advantage for many of today's students, especially the ones who choose to surface learn as opposed to deep learning.
