Kamau is more of a representation of the common African of that time period. Hard working, motivated, yet deprived of education. Njoroge is very different. He does not represent his people but represents the future. In Kenya, those who receive education posses power and Njoroge wanted nothing more than to be able to help his family and country by use of his education. He was looked upon as an intellectual savior. He was given money by neighbors and strangers to help in the continuance of his education.
