Functionalists believe in the different parts played by individual societies or social institutions, in this case the school environment. Functionalists believe in identity and the way we feel about ourselves, how people's identity can have an effect on a person, for example how education provides people with the skills and qualifications needed in the world or work. Functionalists believe the society is a complex system made up with parts that all work together. They believe the society is more important then the person as the individual is produced by the society. All influences from our society make up what and who we are.
