However, research into university life has revealed that students from poor backgrounds with low incomes are increasing with debt and the gap is widening between working and middle class students. Those with lower incomes are expected to be most in debt and owe an average of £9,376, but with the recent introduction of tuition fee's parents earning less than £17, 370 should not worry too much about paying for their son or daughter's degree course. Those parents with incomes over £28,000 have to contribute an additional fee of £1,025 annually. A recent government-funded survey found that student debt has trebled in the last four years.
