Following this, Donald Dewar, Secretary of State of Scotland decided to have a purpose built facility to house the Parliament in the city of Edinburgh. After having a turbulent journey to completion, Scottish parliament Complex was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 9th October 2004. Striking features of the complex comprise of leaf-shaped buildings, turned over boat shaped roof, a grass-roofed branch merging into adjacent parkland and gabion walls formed from the stones of previous buildings. Throughout the building there are many repeated motifs Scottish parliament is not one building but a complex comprising of new and old buildings such as Canon gate building, Debating chamber, Dewar room , Garden Lobby, Main Hall, Media tower, MSP building ,Queensberry House and Tower Building.
