There is very little evidence pertaining to Celtic warfare before the Roman incursions into Celtic territory. Despite the abundance of weaponry found it is unlikely that warfare played as big a role in Celtic society as is often presumed. It is likely that before the Romans appeared that Celtic warfare was small scale and sporadic. This is not to say there were no tactics involved, there were, but they were tactics that suited small scale sporadic conflict as opposed to the prolonged confrontation experienced with the Romans, which ultimately lead to their defeat.
