This example explains that he only acts upon what he experiences and senses. Also, at beginning of the novel, Meursault says; "Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don't know", (Camus, 9). This quote determines that Meursault's does not care about his mothers' death. His lack of feelings is what makes him appear abnormal and for that his character is considered to be unethical among the members of his community. Moreover, Meursault is an Existentialist, which means that he does not act upon what he thinks or feels.
