Walker decides to present this novel as a series of letters. There are many advantages and disadvantages to this. From the opening letter we can see how basic the grammar and literary education that Celie has received, and we can also note that the dialect of the language is of a rural southern black person: "My mama she fuss at me an look at me. She happy, cause he good to her now."
