Many innocent men have been convicted on charges of sexual abuse, and other malfeasance simply because of the "expert" opinion of a psychologist; an opinion that was absolutely worthless, but was accepted by the jury because that psychologist was qualified as an "expert," and was called "Doctor." Experts who purport to offer testimony that is scientific by the use of the adjective "scientific" is implying that a grounding in the procedures of science is required. Counselors can be held liable for violation of Code of Ethics D1J for breach of their professional responsibility, when it becomes apparent that false testimony was given intentionally to deceive misrepresent the facts, and or for purposes of unjust enrichment.
