The report is dated 2002, prior to the "Civil Partnership Act 2004" which offers the opportunity for same-sex couples to register their relationship, and obtain rights and obligations similar to that of married couples. Although it is a little outdated it seems to encourage a number of recommendations in favour of cohabiting couples. The first problem highlighted in the report is that the current law3 seems to favour married couples and those engaged in a civil partnership with regard to property disputes. It seems that today's society has overtaken the laws set on this topic making the law on cohabitation very old fashioned.
