Therefore a direct reply is not always pre empted by an elicitation as we are led to believe in Sinclair and Coultard's framework on classroom discourse. The type of talk in this drama is usual of a public house scenario, switching between talking to customers and each other. The only unusual thing is that we do not hear the customer's responses to the questions asked by the Landlord and Landlady.
