Many grounds for a voidable marriage and grounds for divorce relate to sex. Although formalities exist for marriage ceremonies, religious ceremonies have never been necessary. However, according to the Marriage Act 1949 and Marriage Act 1994, it is necessary to have at least one set of formalities; either rites of the Church of England, a religious ceremony, or by civil procedure. A valid marriage can be terminated by dissolution or death.
