The General treaty made reservations relating to Self-defence and the reservation for collective self-defence which can be said to have been acknowledged by Art 51 of the UN charter brought into force on the 24th October 1945. One of the primary purposes of the UN charter is the 'suppression of acts of aggression or breaches of the peace' (art 1) and that 'All members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat of the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state' (art 2(4)).
