Above all, all gays and lesbians want is to live with the liberties and privileges of others free from persecution. Equal rights and freedoms are the foundation to a democratic society. Stereotypes based on ignorance to the contrary, the fact that someone is gay or lesbian, establish nothing about that person's behavior or moral qualities. Even the unfounded suspicion that someone is gay can, and frequently does, result in unfair treatment. Justice dictates we correct the prejudice stemming from the founded or unfounded assumption that someone chooses to be homosexual.
