The process of money laundering and the extent of its effect came into light essentially within a drug trafficking context due to the rapid increase of drug abuse in the 1980's primarily from the distribution of the narcotic drug in the western countries from drug trafficking. From this it came to light the actual extent of profits generated from criminal activities which was huge.
