In an effort to resolve this inconsistency, the Domain Name Server was developed to efficiently convert the human-readable domain name into the computer readable IP address. HISTORY During the 1960's, when the number of computers was very limited to perhaps several dozen, names were resolved with an aid of simple text file. The text file used a method that would store the domain names and appropriate IP addresses they corresponded to, this method required users to have knowledge of each IP address that they required to access.
