On Bryson’s story he enters a café when he enters he gets the following response, ‘fourteen people just stopped eating, their food resting in their mouth’. In an attempt to calm himself Bryson makes a joke ‘It was so quiet you could hear a fly fart’. This creates a very uncomfortable atmosphere which is showing Bryson’s around southern people and the place. Bryson seems to be slightly obsessed about southern people and their guns, ‘their shotguns were loaded’. He sees every southerner as someone waiting to shoot him.
