The distilling flask has an elongated neck so that the less volatile vapors are condensed and return to the flask, while the more volatile component passes over. Results: Since this particular lab was actually two, partners were assigned to do either simple or fractional distillation. The results from the fractional distillation portion of the lab are located in table 1A. The entire procedure was recorded every 5 drops and the temperature (°C) was recorded for each interval. The number of drops may vary due to the amount of volatile liquid (7mL) in the roundbottom flask and the rate at which the experimenter is heating it.
