... (some of which was still flowering). There were also a few trees which punctuated the undulating landscape of Dead Mans Hill, including Scots Pine, Birch & Oak. A mile or two in the distance the edge of a large expanse of woodland was clearly visible. Down the hill were several well used tracks & paths. A number of dogs with their owners & horse riders were around using these through ways during the course of the investigation. Also, keeping a significant distance away from us, were several free roaming New Forest ponies grazing. There was also evidence of a heavy rabbit presence, in the form of plenty of droppings & bare patches of earth at the top of the hill. During the study a song bird was also briefly heard.
