The French theorist/philosopher, Helene Cixous then took these theories and used them to highlight the inherent sexism in western society through language. (It must be noted that any noun in French is stated to be either masculine or feminine). She then draws attention to sexualised and hierarchised binary oppositions of which I will analyse one pair of these. I have decided to use, 'Activity/passivity' as I feel that these reflect sexism in language well enough, to point out key information that could support Cixous' theories.
