The reason for there being a question of differences between the Northern and Southern hemispheres is based on the idea of the 'North-South divide' brought about through the Brandt Reports in the early 1980's. This concept has come about due to the tendency for industrial development to be prominent in the northern hemisphere, while poverty and disadvantage is prominent in the southern hemisphere (apart from Australia).
