... The Paphlagonian is their master's "favourite" who has gotten them into trouble. Nicius and Demosthenes contemplate running away but dismiss the plan as impossible; they drink some wine in the hope that it will provide them with inspiration as to what to do. In true comic fashion, no sooner than they have taken their first sip they spring upon the idea of stealing some oracles from the Paphlagonian and reading them. The oracles reveal that a sausage seller will overthrow the Paphlagonian. Nicius and Demosthenes happen across the sausage seller and persuade him the oracles are true. Then follows a series of arguments between the Paphlagonian and sausage seller in which the sausage seller wins. However, he does not secure his victory because he is nobler, more decent and honest but he outwits the Paphlagonian at his own game, so to speak, by being more vulgar, deceitful, bloodthirsty and coarse. ...
