We're proud of what we do, and work very hard to minimise the risk of plagiarism for the good of all our members. Just one way we do this is by protecting members' work against being copied by submitting all coursework published on Academic DB to Turnitin plagiarism detection software.

Turnitin is the world's leading plagiarism detection software and in the UK is provided by the UK Government-funded JISC Plagiarism Advisory Service.

What does all this mean?

When members submit their work to us, we protect it for them by submitting it immediately to the makers of Turnitin along with the submitting member’s name (to ensure that our members can’t be accused of plagiarising their own work).

Institutions use Turnitin in different ways. Some ask students to submit work to a specific email address and then automatically scan all work to see if it contains likely occurrences of plagiarism.

Other institutions let students run their own work through it, before submitting it - enabling students to eliminate any possible plagiarism prior to submitting their coursework.

When Turnitin identifies possible plagiarism it highlights both the suspect section of the submitted document, and the relevant section of the document it has found a match with – allowing academics to evaluate, and if necessary, investigate further.

Who uses TurnitinUK?

TurnitinUK is the UK’s leading plagiarism detection software. It is designed by iParadigms and sold into UK universities, schools, colleges and exam boards by the UK Government-funded JISC Plagiarism Advisory Service.

Over 85% of UK universities use Turnitin, as do Edexcel – the UK’s largest exam board. A large, and fast-growing, number of secondary and further education institutions also use TurnitinUK
